McLaren are the Main Contractors implementing a major redevelopment of this existing office building. There is some demolition and new build, as well as refurbishment and remodelling of existing facilities. The client requirements were detailed, including a requirement for BREEAM acoustic credits, and we have helped McLaren develop the original proposals into an implementable brief. This included primarily facade designs, ceiling finishes and detailing.

This listed hall behind the former Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital at Bolsover Street, London W1 was converted to stylish modern offices as part of the relocation of the hospital and development of their former site. Architects HoK designed a predominantly glazed partitions scheme, with a mezzanine floor and we helped them develop and implement suitable standards of sound insulation and reverberation control.

Spectrum assisted XLB in the planning process and then development of acoustic requirements for 2 new high quality office buildings on the Farnborough Business Park. We then developed a practical acoustic strategy relating to noise ingress and noise from building services plant, reverberation control and sound insulation, to align with modern commercial requirements. Following award of the tender, we assisted Kier in the development of the site, and finally carried out acoustic testing, to ensure the performance specification was achieved and to gain targeted BREEAM Credits.

Statoil Offshore Wind Operating Base & Offices, Great Yarmouth

Statoil are developing a base on the quayside in Great Yarmouth to service their offshore operations. Spectrum assisted Ingleton Wood in the development of an existing warehouse into a combined warehouse, with offices and staff welfare facilities to satisfy Statoil’s technical acoustic requirements. This was primarily focused on noise ingress, internal sound insulation and room finishes.

Measurements of airborne sound insulation were carried out between several meeting rooms, and single and multiple-occupancy offices, in response to the client’s concerns regarding the achieved acoustic performance of a new office fit-out. We recommended a scheme of specific corrective actions for various levels of cost and relative improvement.

John Sisk & Son were the Main Contractor on this commercial scheme, and Spectrum provided acoustic advice relating to the award of acoustic credits under BREEAM Hea 5 and Pol 5. Key issues included facade design, internal sound insulation, reverberation control and building services noise. As well as design advice, we conducted commissioning tests on completion against the BREEAM Scheme requirements.

Branch Place, in fashionable Hoxton, is home to this interesting mixed use commercial/residential development. In plan, the development looks like a barge and is situated right on the Regents Canal. Our work included assisting to obtain planning permission and discharging the noise-related conditions; assisting with the sound insulation design and Pre-completion testing of the finished development; BREEAM design and completion stage consultancy for the commercial units at ground floor level.
