Petrochemical
& Gas
The construction of new or expanded petrochemical or gas plants
can often mean a very significant increase in noise to the environment. However,
residential locations are often far from process areas, and consequently
the levels of noise are not usually high. Large
areas of land, however, can potentially be affected and this
can mean thousands of residents.
Controlling noise from these sites is difficult more because
of the sheer size of the development and the large number of
sources. Computer modelling of noise represents an important
tool in early noise design work at the Feasibility/FEED stages
of the project. Ground topography can be an important factor
affecting noise propagation requiring ground contours to be input
into the computer model to enhance accuracy. Simulations
using EEMUA or ISO 9613 propagation methods are carried out with
results outputting both on-plant and in the surrounding community
in numeric and computer generated noise contour formats.
Predicting noise levels radiated from pipework throughout the
site is also a key specialism. This information is added
to the computer model to enhance its overall accuracy.
Spectrum has worked on some of the largest engineering projects
in the world including for example at the worlds largest greenfield
oil refinery Reliance Jamnagar, India, where we acted as noise consultant to Bechtel in a project
to increase capacity from 27 to 40 MTPA. Also the new 30
billion US$ Kashagan onshore Oilfield
development
in Kazakhstan.
Other projects include:
- ADNOC OGD1 and 2 gas treatment complexes,
Abu Dhabi for Technip-Bechtel JV
- Burullus gas plant, Egypt for Bechtel
- Onshore rig noise studies in UK, Denmark,
Holland and Norway for Kenting Drilling
- Kashagan onshore development
for AGIP KCO, Caspian Sea
- Gas storage facilitiesin UK at Aldbrough,
Holford, Satlfleetby for AMEC and Wingas
- Process valves noise
reduction study, for Equate Petrochemicals, Kuwait
- Jamnagar,
the worlds largest greenfield site oil refinery, India
- Gas compressor
stations at Wormington, Churchover and Felindre, UK for AMEC
