Project Management and Supervision of Water Turbine Noise Control Treatment designed by Spectrum at Alcan plant, Scotland

Spectrum has completed a large number of design, specification and project management of water turbine generator noise control schemes. The photo shows three turbines each with their spiral casings acoustically lagged, ready for the painting finish to be applied.  In addition to the acoustic lagging, Spectrum specifies silencers for the cooling fan apertures to the generators. Overall noise levels are typically reduced by 10dB(A), bringing noise exposures of staff in these stations to within limits of the new Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005.
