Kashagan Oilfield Offshore Island, Kazakhstan

The giant Kashagan oilfield in the Caspian sea is being developed at a cost of 35 billion $US.  Spectrum was appointed by the operator AGIP KCO to undertake a comprehensive independent noise and vibration study of the complete project.  This photograph shows an artist’s impression of the offshore artificial islands and barges.  Around the whole installation are huge man-made ice-protecting barriers which break up encroaching ice that builds up during the winter months in this hostile environment.
