Renca CCGT Power Station, Santiago, Chile

Spectrum was retained by AES Chile, to undertake a series of noise studies to ensure a new CCGT/Co-Gen plant met stringent environmental noise zonal limits for residential areas in the suburbs of Chile’s capital city.  Preliminary studies and measurement investigations established the feasibility of reducing noise from this station. Following meetings and discussions with the city authorities, a noise control programme was implemented and Spectrum carried out concept design and detailed noise control design on a range of noise control measures including an exhaust stack silencer, steam vent silencers, barriers, and enclosures. The photograph shows the inlet duct to the gas turbine with the extent of proposed acoustic cladding marked up in grey.
