The regeneration of Paddington’s formerly derelict canal land is transforming the area into a vibrant neighbourhood providing high quality residential, office and retail space similar in size to Soho. Of critical importance to the developers of the land is high quality acoustic conditions. Spectrum have worked in great depth with the client and designers from planning to commissioning on all facets of acoustics. This includes sound insulation within residences, between residences and to non-residential areas; plant noise and vibration control; acoustic quality of common spaces and regulatory compliance. Our involvement extends to the flagship, 42 storey 1 Merchant Square which includes premium quality apartments, boutique hotel and Skybar.
Part of a larger regeneration of land in Greenwich which will ultimately accommodate, hotel, leisure, student accommodation and office developments, this mixed use building comprising offices, retail and mixed tenure residential involved Spectrum throughout the development. Starting with analysis to protect vibration sensitive neighbouring buildings during the demolition of the previous on-site structures, to sound insulation design, Pre completion testing and comprehensive environmental noise modelling of the new energy centre which forms part of the overall development.
This prestige development of mixed-use, mixed-tenure uses have seen Spectrum’s involvement from early design development stages through to detailed design, tender, construction and commissioning. Our services ranged from the efficient specification of separating partitions, mock-up testing and services noise control to specialist issues like noise and vibration control of hot tubs located over bedrooms.
A massive programme of rejuvenation of this part of Lambeth has seen 808 new-build dwellings and 172 dwellings refurbished, along with a new community centre and energy centre facilities. Spectrum have assisted at many stages of the project with innovative, efficient sound insulation design of light-gauge steel frame buildings, plant noise control, BREEAM ‘New Buildings’ acoustic credits for the community centre, and a broad range of ad-hoc consultancy tasks.
Part new-build and part refurbishment, Spectrum’s involvement with this major housing redevelopment includes sound insulation between residences, site noise exposure prediction and noise ingress control, plant noise control from the new energy centre and other building services along with Pre Completion testing and Code for Sustainable Homes credits.
Abbeyfield provide a range of living provision for the elderly and this independent living development at Girton Green offers a high quality of accommodation and facilities for its residents, including self-contained living, swimming pool and spa, dining, cinema and shopping. Spectrum have assisted the developers throughout the planning and construction process, including with early stage studies of noise exposure, innovative solutions to noise ingress and outdoor noise constraints, plant noise assessment and control and fault investigation.
This multi-faceted redevelopment of the Crayford Town Centre has involved a new community centre and library, new retail as well as high quality residences formed by the change of use of the previous library building and significant new residential provision across several multi-storey buildings. Spectrum’s involvement includes the whole range of services from assisting to obtain planning permission, acoustic design services, plant noise assessment and control, BREEAM assessment of the public buildings and sound insulation testing.
