Residential Acoustic Design

Residential development is increasingly diverse. Brownfield regeneration, high-density urban schemes, Passivhaus and low-carbon builds, heritage conversions and traditional housing all present different acoustic challenges for the design team.

Spectrum assesses site suitability and supports planning applications through the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). We advise on facade design and noise mitigation to control transportation and environmental noise intrusion, giving confidence to planners and environmental health officers.

We then work through the acoustic design of internal structures and partitions to meet Approved Document E, BREEAM requirements and client specifications.

On sustainable and Passivhaus schemes, we address the particular challenges of airtightness, MVHR system noise and balancing thermal comfort with acoustic performance.

Our team includes ANC-accredited consultants who carry out pre-completion sound insulation testing to demonstrate compliance.

We are involved from feasibility through to handover, reducing risk and ensuring acoustic performance is delivered on site, not just on paper.
