A contract for the detailed noise design of buildings and balance of plant equipment has been awarded to Spectrum for a trio of three renewable energy biomass plants (10MW) at Hull, Boston and Barry, in the UK by Galliford Try and their designers GHD Livigunn.
The plants utilise a range of wood and wood based fuels and gasification technology and equipment from Outotec, the Finnish based international contractor.
Our role as the renewable energy noise consultant is to ensure that the process equipment, the power generation equipment and ancillaries, and the buildings and their ventilation systems meet noise requirements set by local planning authorities and the environmental regulators, the Environment Agency in England and Natural Resources Wales. Each of the plants has to adopt the Best Available Techniques for minimising the effects of noise to the surrounding community.
We have reviewed planning documents and initial designs, developed outline noise mitigation concepts, and helped select appropriate noise control equipment and building systems. We have also prepared a series of reports setting out progress on the detailed noise design, advising noise limits for equipment and ensuring project noise limits are achieved. In this we have been aided carrying out noise propagation modelling using Bruel & Kjaer’s Predictor v.11 software.
