Proposed new Strategic Rail Freight Interchange (SRFI) moves into Community Consultation phase

12 August 2016 by Andrew Corkill, Director

Spectrum are acting as noise and vibration consultants on the proposed Rail Central SRFI which will occupy a large site to the west of Northampton near the villages of Milton Malsor and Blisworth. The application which is being considered under the arrangements for nationally significant infrastructure projects, is now moving into the consultation phase.

James Digby from Rail Central said: “We’re keen to ensure that people who want to find out more and get involved can do exactly that. The community consultation and the public exhibitions which are an important aspect of it will contribute to our overall consultation programme. Ultimately, we’re looking to design the scheme to be the best it can be and the feedback we receive will help to inform the proposals we take forward.”

As specialist noise consultants to the team, Andrew Corkill and Alex Priestley of Spectrum attended all 8 of the early public meetings held during April and May in the area, where the early stages of the design were being shared with local communities. The meetings were visited by over 1,000 people and attracted significant media attention including from local and national radio and TV.

Comments from the public are now being fed into the design development process, and Spectrum will continue studies on the project, developing noise mitigation strategies and seeking to minimise the impact of noise and vibration through all phases of the proposed development.
